A naked girl is found beside a car that hits a tree in Richmond Park.  The first police on the scene think she might have been thrown out when the accident happened.  However, the pathologist disagrees: she might have been thrown out of a car, but it was not the one involved in the accident.

The girl, when eventually she is identified, proves to be a woman with bizarre sexual proclivities and a list of lovers, any one of whom might have killed her.

Detective Chief Inspector Harry Brock and his black sergeant Dave Poole are assigned to investigate, but they are faced with many deceptive leads before the true murderer is revealed.
